Brief History

The first edition of the Kitenge Fashion Fest was held on 4th April 2015 at The Boma Inn Eldoret. The show received positive reviews from the public and it was widely suggested that kitenge will be a stable platform for local fashion and design be initiated in Uasin Gishu County. It was attended by over 500+ people. Kitenge Fashion Fest vision is to transform Kenyan designs and fashion into a strong tourism and local income earner. It expanded opportunities and space for designers, models, creative artists and artpreneurs in the region by offering them a platform to showcase and network with clients, investors and marketers locally, regionally and internationally. Kitenge Fashion Festival attracted a massive following, Including dignitaries, sportsmen (David Rudisha) and influential people (STL The musician). The tickets were sold out and saw slightly above 800 people in attendance. The second edition of the Kitenge Fashion Fest was held on 6th May 2017 at the Noble Hotel, Eldoret with a record attendance of 950 people. We had attendees aged between 24 and 40 years old, 67% female, 33% male. Most designers and artists come from Uasin Gishu county while others in other towns. All our models were sourced from Eldoret and other towns with most of them being fashion enthusiasts from the universities and colleges within the county Our theme is Fashion for Humanitarianism. In partnership with red cross, we hope to seek long term solutions for the same.

The third edition of the Kitenge Fashion Fest was held on 29th December 2020 at the rupas mall conference hall. The year ́s event focused on changing the narrative of Uasin Gishu’s arts and fashion culture. The fusion of catwalk, art showcase and music performances that saw over 900+ attendance. This year, the event theme is” Fashion against Gender Based Violence”. The event theme was heavily influenced by the rise of gender-based violence especially in young relationships and the normalization of the femicide and related issues. The theme was tackled extensively in an open forum seminar where we aimed to capture the thought system of the average Kenyan youth on issues affecting relationships and how to tackle them. The event is geared with the 1st edition of the awarding ceremony for best top fashion models and designers, where Winners were announced after valid voting process before the event. We therefore, had a turnout of about 1,500 people attending the event. Kitenge Fashion fest and Gala awards 4th edition was held on 10th July 2021 at rupas mall grounds.
The 4th edition was more refined and it was a great success meeting and exceeding the objectives of involved stakeholders. We hosted 20 models, 15 designers. The event theme; ``Fashion for environmental conservation`` where we planted over 5,000 tree seedlings. With young campus generation who are fashion lovers we offered a unique chance to sensitize them about the importance of healthy environment. Trees take advantage of Mother Nature's natural resources system and deliver shade soil condition food for wildlife and humans. We had a series of tree planting activities in different universities and colleges within Uasin Gishu County.

"Everyone likes to track everyday fashion. Fashion gives designers a chance to be independent in ideas. It boosts confidence in the wearer.
